Overview
Sri Lanka's beaches are critical nesting grounds for five species of endangered sea turtles — the green, hawksbill, leatherback, loggerhead, and olive ridley. The Ahungalla Sea Turtle Conservation Project works year-round to protect nesting sites, rescue injured turtles, and rehabilitate animals injured by fishing nets and boat propellers. A visit to the project is both educational and deeply moving.
- See five species of endangered sea turtle in a responsible conservation setting
- Learn about the threats facing sea turtles and Sri Lanka's conservation efforts
- Watch rescued and rehabilitating turtles being cared for by conservation staff
- Sustainable and responsible — a significant portion of your fee funds the project
- Easily combined with a beach day at Ahungalla or nearby Ambalangoda
